WHEN schools open on July 21, Umbogintwini Primary School will have a new head after its former principal bid farewell at the end of the previous term.

On June 26, Gail Wehrle signed out for the last time as the school’s principal, making way for Bernadette Fernandez, who has been appointed as acting principal. Wehrle’s long journey with the school started in 1992, and she helped mould thousands of young minds into productive adults.

In a statement, the school said that throughout her career, she embraced every change with grace, always focusing on what is best for learners. It thanked her for 34 years of inspiring young minds, supporting colleagues, and leading with compassion.

“Her belief in taking the best from every experience, together with her passion for teaching and learning, has left a lasting impact on generations of Twini learners and staff alike. More than anything, she has helped preserve the heart of Twini, a school built on family, kindness, and a genuine love for children. Her influence will continue to be felt long after her final sign-out,” read the statement.

The Department of Education’s circuit manager for Amanzimtoti, Mdu Kheswa, also thanked Werhle for her meticulous service and congratulated Fernandez on her appointment as acting principal.
