N2 high-speed chase nets shooting suspect

The chase led to the N2 south where the fleeing driver crossed over the centre median onto the oncoming traffic in an attempt to shake ET Rapid Response officers off his tail.

A VW Polo that was said to have been involved in a shooting in the Durban CBD on October 13 was intercepted on the N2 near Isipingo after a high-speed chase.

In a statement, ET Rapid Response said after information about the incident was relayed, its tactical team spotted a vehicle matching the description on the M4, resulting in a high-octane pursuit. The chase led to the N2 south, where the fleeing driver crossed over the centre median onto the oncoming traffic in an attempt to shake ET Rapid Response officers off his tail.

“The suspects suddenly opened fire towards our [officers] and they returned fire,” read the statement.

The car’s occupants then stopped, alighted from their vehicle, and fled on foot into the surrounding bush. The area was cordoned off by back-up officers from the CCPO, metro police, and police officers from Amanzimtoti, Isipingo, Umlazi police stations, and security partners. One suspect was apprehended while the second escaped.
