Man killed in Lotus Park drive-by shooting

Isipingo police are investigating a murder after one man was killed and another was hospitalised following a drive-by shooting.

ISIPINGO police have confirmed that a man was killed in an alleged drive-by shooting in Lotus Park on November 13, while another victim is in a critical condition. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened by police and investigations are underway.

Constable Donald Naidoo, communications officer of the Isipingo police, said that the incident occurred at midday.

“The victims were outside on Lotus Road, where it is alleged that while waiting for a delivery, seated in their vehicle, occupants of a white Volkswagen hatchback opened fire towards the victims’ vehicle,” said Naidoo.

The make and registration number of the assailants’ vehicle are unknown.

Naidoo confirmed that one of the victims, who is in his twenties, is being treated at a local hospital, where he is in critical condition. The other victim, who was around 40-years-old, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and head and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

A total of 13 spent rifle cartridges were found on the scene.

Vispol Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Derrick Cyril Cain, who also was on the scene, commented that no one should be subjected to such a gruesome death and he has instructed members to leave no stone unturned in this investigation.
