Police and private security officers cornered the suspects of a cash-in-transit robbery, triggering a deadly shoot-out.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said an unknown number of armed individuals forced a cash truck to stop on the R102 and disarmed security guards before stealing an undisclosed amount of money.

Police and private security officers responded and cornered the suspects, triggering a shoot-out. While others managed to flee, three robbers were shot dead at the scene, and the police recovered three rifles and ammunition.

“We know from experience that there are getaway vehicles and there are those who were not at the crime scene. So, we don’t know how many of them were at the crime scene, but a manhunt is on for those that we saw, which we are pursuing now,” said Netshiunda.

He urged anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the culprits to report the information to the police.
