Lethukuthula Gumede, the senior manager of the High-Voltage Network Control Unit, said the supply interruption is necessary to allow teams to safely isolate, remove, and repair the 11-kilovolt feeder circuit breaker at the Isipingo substation.
The municipality stated that the repair work will necessitate half of the substation’s switchboard being taken offline, affecting approximately 50% of customers supplied by the facility.
Areas expected to be affected include Malukazi, Lotus Drive, Lotus Park, Isipingo Rail, Isipingo Hills and parts of the Prospecton Industrial area. Residents and businesses in these areas have been urged to plan for the outage.
“Customers that are not switched off by 08:30 can assume that they will not be affected by this outage,” said Gumede.
The municipality has also advised residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the outage period. For more information or to report related issues, residents can contact the municipal call centre on 080 3111 111.
