South Coast water supply to be interrupted for maintenance

The South Coast's water supply will be affected due to planned maintenance. The system is expected to recover fully by the end of the week.

ETHEKWINI Municipality released a statement advising residents and businesses to be aware of a planned interruption to the bulk water supply affecting all areas supplied by the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) Pipeline and Booster Pump station.

The planned shutdown will commence on April 23 from 08:00 until 20:00, and will allow for critical maintenance and operational improvements. After supply is restored the system’s recovery will begin. Extended delays are expected and water supply may only begin to normalise by April 24.

Recovery will occur in stages. For the southern system, Amanzimtoti Water Works and Quarry Reservoir must recover first before downstream reservoirs can begin to refill.

“The planned works include reinstalling pump two and its associated components, as well as testing and re-commissioning the system to ensure improved reliability and performance,” said the statement.
