Operation Good Hope shuts down Isipingo restaurant

The municipality stated that the restaurant was filthy and selling expired food.

THE Operation Good Hope team shut down a restaurant in Isipingo that was operating without a proper business licence.

According to a statement released by eThekwini Municipality on Friday, August 5, the restaurant was also filthy and selling expired food and was overall not compliant with municipal by-laws.

“Businesses are urged to adhere to the City’s by-laws to ensure the safety and well-being of customers. The City recognises the important role businesses and the informal economy play in creating jobs. However, all businesses must operate within the bounds of the law,” read the statement.

During the clean-up, the restaurant was closed for non-compliance to municipal health by-laws. Among their contraventions was using a drill to mix their dough.

The statement urged residents to be aware of products they buy for consumption. “This comes as Metro Police arrested a man for producing counterfeit alcohol recently in Inanda,” it read.

Municipal employees also inspected a robot control box to ensure it was working optimally for the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
