Tidy Towns cleans up Doonside
Now that the bush has been cleared, they will be focusing on picking up litter in the coming weeks.
OVERGROWN bush, informal shacks and litter were removed in and around the bush near the pedestrian bridge by the Doonside traffic lights recently.
Phase Three of Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti’s clean-up included removing a lot of bush and shacks, with local security companies chasing the occupants out a day or two before the clean sweep.

Coordinator Michelle Dunnett said, “The team that showed up were amazing – they got stuck in and cleared everything. There’s now nowhere for anyone to hide in the bush. We’ve also been thanked by a lot of locals who use the pedestrian bridge as they now feel safer. We feel like we managed to accomplish a lot.”

She thanked the volunteers that showed up, CCPO for watching over them and keeping guard, as well as the municipality that provided bags and orange cones and removed the shrubbery that was cut down.
She also gave a special thanks to Seabreeze, which supplied the machinery that allowed them to get so much done, as well as Aquazania, from Durban North, which supplied bottled water.

On October 28, Tidy Towns met with local businesses in Doonside, in an effort to get them to contribute, financially and/or physically.
The community-driven project encourages the community to come on board and join their social media platforms so they are aware of the projects going on.
