Remembrance Day parade held in Warner Beach
Moths, other military veterans and the public honoured those who had been killed in the line of duty with poppies, a ceremony and a march.
THE sound of bagpipers could be heard in Warner Beach on November 13, as Mills Bomb Shellhole hosted their annual Remembrance Day parade.
Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day, owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy, is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of World War I. This day honours armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

Commemoration ceremonies are usually held on the nearest Sunday, at which the Last Post is played by a bugler followed by the observation of a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths.
“Ceremonies to mark the event in South Africa are held at various venues throughout the country. It commemorates famous battles such as The Battle of Delville Wood, France – 1st South African Infantry Brigade lost 2 536 men – and also the sinking the of the SS Mendi where South Africa lost 616 people, 607 whom were Black troops,” said Old Bill of Mills Bomb Shellhole, Moth Piet Fourie.
Many hands worked for many months to create a spectacular display of red poppies painted on white stones, which were artistically displayed along pathways, spelling out words and forming pretty patterns. Others were made from plastic painted red and adorned tree trunks and fences, creating works of art.
The day saw the Moths (Memorable Order of Tin Hats) and other military veterans organisations as well as the public attend. The very moving march of men proudly wearing their Moth regalia while marching along Ellcock Road, led by the Caledonian Pipe Band, was a sight that brought lumps to many throats.
Moth Mills Bomb Shellhole will also be celebrating its 95th anniversary tomorrow, November 26, from 11:00.
They will also be having their 95th anniversary market day on December 16, from 08:00–16:00.
The public is welcome to attend both events.
