Funds run low at Amanzimtoti SPCA

The animal shelter appeals for a monthly or once-off donation, as it is running at a loss and its reserves are depleting.

WITH the Amanzimtoti SPCA’s reserves rapidly depleting, and a loss of R79K in March, they appeal to the community to consider making a monthly or once-off donation.

Amanzimtoti SPCA committee member Stacey Wall said, “We need your help. This is not the kind of appeal we like to make, but sadly, things have been really tough for us lately. Month after month, we are running at a loss, and our reserves are depleting at an alarming rate.”

She said they receive no government funding and have not received a municipal grant in years. Lotto is also no longer sponsoring animal charities.

“We are totally reliant on donations and support from the public to keep doing the important work we do in our community, which spans from the old airport in the north, to Hibberdene in the south, and 30km inland. We are really taking strain,” said Wall.

She added that they never turn any animal away. Their one inspector and one field officer attend to multiple reports of animal cruelty and emergencies daily. Their kennels are full of animals to feed and care for.

“If you can, we would really appreciate your help. Could you spare R30 a month, or even just a once-off? It will honestly make such a huge difference to us,” said Wall.
