Jona Vaughan Home receives donation

On Casual Day, members of the Amanzimtoti Police Station and House of Nations Church gave a much-needed donation, before spending time with the residents.

IN honour of Casual Day last week, Amanzimtoti police and House of Nations Church visited and donated to the residents of Jona Vaughan Home for the Handicapped.

Amanzimtoti Police Station’s communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, said, “This year’s theme, #ShareASmile, provided an opportunity to share a smile with those facing challenges in an inequitable world, to start breaking down barriers and bridging the gaps that society creates.”

She said members of the Amanzimtoti Police Station, in partnership with House of Nations Church, spent the morning at Jona Vaughan Home for persons with intellectual disabilities.

A donation of much-needed items was also given to the home.

Casual Day, celebrated on September 1, is the annual fundraising campaign of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD). National director of NCPD, Therina Wentzel, said the theme aims to promote kindness, goodwill and positivity in support of persons with disabilities in South Africa.

“A smile can trigger a positive chain reaction of wonderfully, uncontrollable proportions,” she said.
