The hospice’s CEO, Neil McDonald, said, “Men are challenged to have a small fundraising event at home, at the golf or sports club, at the gym, the office or at church. In the end, making a kind donation to Khanya Hospice will help sustain the free palliative nursing care that we offer to people.”

McDonald said this challenge also creates awareness for men to be tested for prostate or testicular cancer.

“According to the Men’s Foundation, one in every 23 South African men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. On average, five men die from prostate cancer every day. Around 4 300 men are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. We are not going to let the statistics get us down – we are promoting early detection, and we are going to be tested,” said McDonald.
