Water outage to affect certain southern areas

It is suspected that a burst water pipe is responsible for the water outage affecting Athlone Park residents.

A WATER outage affecting Athlone Park, Illovo Beach and Umgababa was reported today (January 12). Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said repairs have been scheduled to start as soon as possible.

“Officials will open the bypass to assist Athlone Park’s high level shortly while monitoring the Lewis Drive reservoir to ensure there is no interruption. A burst pipe was noted at Warner Beach that affects Illovo Beach and other reservoirs downstream,” said Beetge.

On January 11, the Athlone Park water tower was empty, and the reservoir had a very low water level.

Beetge said officials did not know the reason, but a burst on the supply line was suspected, and they asked residents to report the burst immediately if they saw it to assist with swift repairs.
