Her nomination in the Excellence in Natural Science Teaching category, championed by her subject advisor Barbie Mbatha and seconded by principal Kamalpersad Singh, comes in recognition of her outstanding contributions to improving science education in the Umlazi District.
Singh’s commitment to excellence was evident as she conducted numerous workshops under the DBE, aiming to elevate science results across the district.
“I competed against a number of teachers at district and cluster level, and was selected as one of the top three candidates to compete provincially from July 29 to August 2. The results for the national candidate will be released next month,” she said.
In response to her nomination, Singh said it is both an honour and a humbling experience.
“It’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication that I pour into my teaching. However, the true reward for me lies not in the accolades but in the daily interactions with my learners. My passion is in igniting curiosity and fostering a love for natural science. I teach because I believe in the transformative power of education, focusing on the outcomes and growth rather than any financial gain,” she said.
Beyond her professional achievements, Singh is deeply involved in her community. She serves as the chairperson of the Isipingo Junior Soccer Academy, promoting youth development, and supports the Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer Foundation, reflecting her commitment to charitable causes.
