The accolade was presented at the fourth annual Amaqhawe Children Youth Men and Women Empowerment (ACYMWE) Awards, held at Durban’s Bat Centre recently. These awards honour individuals committed to community development.

Thandeka, a businesswoman from KwaMakhutha and founder of Sakha Isizwe FM, an online radio station, has spearheaded multiple initiatives to support communities in KwaMakhutha, Lovu, Umbumbulu, Folweni, and Adams Mission.

“This win means a lot to me because it was my first after two previous nominations. It shows the positive impact my work has had in creating opportunities for others,” Thandeka said.

As a woman in business, she acknowledged the challenges, but the satisfaction of seeing people benefit from her efforts has made it all worthwhile. Thandeka currently supports seven young people with bursaries for radio broadcasting training at Sakha Isizwe FM. Not only do they get training, they also receive a monthly stipend.
