eThekwini Municipality has, however, noted public concerns following a social media post about a clinic notice requesting patients to bring their identity documents (ID) when visiting a clinic. In a statement, eThekwini said the post has been misinterpreted as suggesting that individuals without IDs are being denied access to basic healthcare services.
“The city would like to reassure the public that this is not the case. As part of standard procedure, patients visiting any municipal clinic for the first time are asked to bring their IDs solely to open a patient file. Once a file has been opened, patients are not required to bring their ID for future visits,” it said.
eThekwini runs a total of 59 clinics, with eight of them on the South Coast between Isipingo and Umkomaas.
