Upon inspection, officials discovered that the locks on the pump station had been forcibly broken. Internal piping, previously upgraded from metal to plastic to prevent theft, had been deliberately damaged, resulting in a significant loss of water. A similar incident was also reported at the Almond Road reservoir.
Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge, condemned the act, saying it was no accident.
“It is becoming increasingly evident that these are deliberate attempts to sabotage our water infrastructure, and it places further strain on an already fragile system,” said Beetge.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near municipal infrastructure.
Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact the police on 10111 or the metro police on 031 361 0000.
