Rootin’ tootin’ fun at Poinsettia Park fête

A memorable day full of vibrant colours, cowboys, Native Americans, scrumptious food and fundraising fun took place at the retirement centre.

POINSETTIA Park Retirement Centre was a hive of activity and buzzed with excitement and wild west-themed fun at the centre’s annual fête earlier this month.

Residents and community members volunteered their time and energy to make the fête an event to remember, dressing to the nines for a blast to the past. Line dancers, led by Dawn Mare, donning cowboy hats, plaid shirts and boots, danced to saloon-themed tunes.

Various crafts, delicious foods, and bits and bobs were on sale on the day, and children enjoyed Western games while people socialised with family and friends.

Wendy Lloyd, community services manager at Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre, said the centre raises funds throughout the year as it is an NPO.

Lloyd added, “Fundraising is a two-way street as many of our residents and staff enjoy having the opportunity to work together for a good cause. This is done by means of jumble sales and our big fundraiser for the year, our fête. It is our residents who come up with and vote for theme ideas for the annual fête. The funds raised are used for various projects deemed necessary after consultation with residents and management.”

An example of this are the extra water tanks that have been installed at the centre. Lloyd was thankful for the community’s support and proudly said some visitors commented that they never missed a fête.
