Totally Art Club transforms Seadoone Mall into an art exhibit

Hurry up and get on down to Seadoone Mall, where an Amanzimtoti art club is holding an art exhibition and silent auction for charity.

TOTALLY ART club has taken over a section of Seadoone Mall for its art exhibit and silent auction, which began on October 7. If you would like to add beautiful art to your collection while also assisting the Jona Vaughan Home for the Handicapped, you have until tomorrow to place your bid.

How does the silent auction work?

Magda van der Merwe, of Totally Art Club, said that artists around the community made generous donations of their paintings to support the Jona Vaughan Home, which is in desperate need of support.

“I’m a really big fan of South African artist, William Kentridge, hence my effort in this painting,” explained Van der Merwe.

Patricia McCann, chairperson of Totally Art Club, showed off her vibrant piece.

“It’s so exhilarating to be able to get artists together that would normally be sitting at home just painting for the sake of it. This is all a community effort. We all love art, it’s our passion and you can see from the paintings that are here that we are very passionate. It also makes our hearts happy. My style is all over the place, full of colour and energy, just like I am,” said McCann.

“I’ve been painting and drawing since school. I did do art at school, but I have taught myself a lot more than what I did there and have improved my techniques a lot. Since joining the art club, I’ve actually learnt a whole lot more, which is quite exciting because on your own you don’t get to learn what you learn in art club. That’s been quite exciting,” said Maree.

Mabs Kruger

Mabs Kruger’s exquisite painting was inspired by her time living on a farm.

“It’s wonderful to have a platform in our area to actually display our art. We’re very thankful for it. I started painting as a pastime, to free the soul. This is a painting I’ve done of a guinea fowl. I lived on a farm before and it brings me back to rural settings, out of the urban hustle and bustle. I hope this exhibit can inspire others to join our club. The variety of work here is incredible, with every level of skill, every genre,” said Kruger.

Totally Art Club meets on the third Saturday of each month at the activities hall at Mooi Hawens in Winklespruit from 10:00. Artists of all skill levels, including beginners, are welcome.
