A beacon of hope in Felekisi, Hanna Charity feeds more than 300 people weekly and is committed to empowering the community.
STANDING tall in the heart of Felekisi, as a shining symbol of hope, dignity and compassion, is the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation, an NPO which feeds more than 300 people weekly, ensuring that vulnerable families and children do not go to bed hungry.

Area manager Elzett Thiart said that the “Blue House,” as it is affectionately known, serves as a community hub. It opens its doors daily to provide support, guidance, and a safe space for families facing difficult circumstances.

She explained that beyond feeding the underprivileged, the Hanna Charity runs a clothing bank and offers day-to-day assistance to parents seeking help with their children.
“Empowerment remains at the centre of our mission. This year, three dedicated women proudly completed their Grade 10 through the Department of Education, an achievement the foundation celebrates deeply. One volunteer recently secured permanent employment, while another now serves at a local preschool in Doonside, giving back to the community that once supported her. Weekly womanhood sessions offer women the chance to learn practical skills from crafting to designing their own CVs,” said Thiart.

As the need in Felekisi grows, so too does the call for support. She explained that more families are struggling, and more children are staying home from school and going to bed hungry.
“With Christmas approaching, while much of the world is singing Jingle Bells and O Holy Night, many local families are simply hoping for a warm meal or a small act of kindness. We are not here to give a hand-out, but a hand up and even a little can mean a lot to someone else,” said Thiart.
