Second beach wheelchair donated for public use in Amanzimtoti [Video]

Also called sand cruisers, beach wheelchairs have bigger wheels than an average wheelchair, and they are specially designed to float on water.

SAPPHIRE Coast Tourism accepted a generous donation of a new beach wheelchair from Moodley’s Sand Suppliers at Amanzimtoti Main Beach on November 20, bringing the number of beach wheelchairs to two.

Also called sand cruisers, beach wheelchairs have bigger wheels than an average wheelchair, and they are specially designed to float on water, making them a useful tool for those living with disabilities to enjoy the beach.

The first sand cruiser was donated in 2024 by Reece Smith, who is a quadriplegic, after local companies bought it for him. He, in turn, donated it to Sapphire Coast Tourism so it can be enjoyed by anyone who needs it.
