Umbumbulu farmers receive assistance

Umbumbulu is one of eThekwini Municipality's primary farming towns, boasting arable land that is mainly cultivated for vegetable crops.

SMALL-SCALE farmers in Umbumbulu recently received assistance from the KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as the planting season winds to an end.

The department’s MEC, Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, was responding to eThekwini Farmers Project’s applications by handing out seeds, fertilisers, and mechanisation programmes.

Umbumbulu is one of eThekwini Municipality’s primary farming towns, boasting arable land that is mainly cultivated for vegetable crops that include dry and green beans, maize, and yams. Sugarcane is also planted in the area.

KaMadlopha-Mthethwa said 219 farmers from eThekwini Municipality, with 125 from Umbumbulu, have benefited from this programme.
She added that the department continues to roll out the programme to assist farmers in other areas.
