Driver charged for overloading near Isipingo

A quick count revealed that 14 primary school learners from two different schools were crammed into the car, including in the boot.

A SEVERELY overloaded car transporting learners was one of 26 that saw the drivers issued with charges by the metro police at a checkpoint on the M35 near Isipingo on March 6.

A quick count revealed that 14 primary school learners from two schools were crammed into the car, including in the boot.
In a statement, the metro police said that one learner was seated on a bench placed in the passage, leaving no space for safe movement, and placing the children at serious risk.

“The driver was charged accordingly. During the operation, officers issued 26 charges and suspended 18 vehicles for various traffic violations. The metro police continue to prioritise the safety of learners and all road users,” it said.
