Umgababa chief’s death shocks community

NEWS that the Inkosi (chief) of the UMnini Trust Traditional Authority in Umgababa has died sent shockwaves in the community, with his subjects wondering what the future holds.

Inkosi Phathisizwe Philbert Luthuli passed away on March 9, after collapsing at his home at around 20:00. He was rushed to Kingsway Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
One of the final tasks he undertook this year was meeting with eThekwini Municipality Mayor Cyril Xaba to discuss civic and infrastructure programmes in Umgababa, including future projects to improve the area.
His subjects were in a state of disbelief on various social media sites about his passing, as there had been no word that he was ill.
