Amanzimtoti’s fishing fanatic turns 96

Barbara Wehrle said the key to a long life is doing things you enjoy.

AMANZIMTOTI resident, Barbara Wehrle, was in good spirits as she celebrated her 96th birthday on March 20.

The nonagenarian said the key to a long life is staying active, taking good care of oneself, and doing the things you love. One of the things she loves is fishing, which she has done since she was eight-years-old, after being taught by her mother. She is widely known within the fisherfolk community, having reeled in fish in Amanzimtoti for over 60 years.

She spent her day surrounded by loved ones and receiving birthday messages from far and wide.
