eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana said the incident occurred when the men ventured into the surf at a location not designated for swimming.
“Upon recognising the emergency, lifeguards acted immediately and, with the support of metro police search and rescue teams, brought all three men safely back to shore. This incident underscores the serious risks of swimming in areas without lifeguard supervision and where sea conditions may be hazardous,” said Sisilana.
She urged all bathers to only swim at beaches officially designated for bathing, where lifeguards are on duty and safety measures are in place. She also commended all emergency personnel involved in the rescue for their bravery, teamwork, and dedication.
