Southern pipeline failure causes widespread water shortages
The system recovery will first prioritise the Toti Water Works and Quarry Reservoir before water can be distributed to downstream reservoirs.
THE repeated tripping of the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) Booster Pump Station has led to the eThekwini Municipality issuing an interruption of water supply notice to residents and businesses today (April 11).

In a statement, eThekwini said due to the recurring nature and complexity of the fault, a specialist was called in to assess the pumps and diagnose the underlying cause of the failures. Mechanical and electrical engineering teams, led by the specialist, are reportedly on site working to restore the pumps.
While work is expected to be completed later today, a full restoration of supply in southern areas is expected to take longer, with residents likely to begin receiving water from Sunday afternoon.
“It must be noted that the system recovery will first prioritise the Toti Water Works and Quarry Reservoir before water can be distributed to downstream reservoirs. In the interim, water tankers will be deployed to supply affected communities,” read the statement.
