The incident began when a white Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, reported stolen in the Berea area and fitted with a tracking device, was intercepted by law enforcement. Members of ET Rapid Response Tactical Response Unit, Amanzimtoti police, and the metro police’s K9 Unit acted swiftly, launching a co-ordinated operation to locate the vehicle. The stolen Prado was soon spotted travelling alongside a Toyota Corolla Cross, believed to have been escorting it.

A high-speed pursuit ensued, with multiple law enforcement units joining the chase. During the pursuit, suspects allegedly opened fire on officers, prompting members to return fire as the chase intensified.

The pursuit came to a violent end when both vehicles lost control and collided with each other. Three suspects were arrested at the scene. All sustained critical injuries and were transported to the hospital under police guard. Police recovered several items believed to be linked to vehicle theft operations, including car break-in implements, a signal jammer, multiple computer boxes, automotive programming devices, a firearm, and a police scanner.

All suspects were transported to hospital under police guard, and investigations are ongoing.
