Mooi Hawens Sonneblomme invited stakeholders to conduct the session, which empowered elderly residents with knowledge on digital safety, personal safety tips, and current scams and fraud trends to be aware of.

Captain Charlene Petersen, Communications Officer at Amanzimtoti Police station, spoke specifically on romance scams targeting mature residents.

Following that, Sparrow Trust’s Estelle van Eeden led an exciting digital safety quiz to guide the discussion and gauge the general ‘digital hygiene’ of participants. She further outlined practical tips and strategies to safeguard against cybercrime.

Van Eeden added that in addition, the Amanzimtoti police Spiritual Network chairperson, Debbie West, gave a short devotional word of encouragement to the attendees to bolster their spirits during this time of uncertainty.

She expressed thanks to sponsors of refreshments, including Under the Juniper Tree, Stella’s Buttercream Floristry, Lipleksmakie and the Amanzimtoti police Spiritual Network.
