IT WAS a day of fun quizzes focusing on the life of former president, the late Nelson Mandela, as part of Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum’s (ACPF) Mandela Day programme at the iCare Child and Youth Care Centre in Lower Illovo.

Merlene Matthew, chairperson of the ACPF, opened the day with a devotional and led a fun quiz focusing on the life of South Africa’s first democratic president.  

Warrant officer Mbuso Wela addressed the centre’s boys on substance abuse and bullying, and inspired them to exercise their willpower in making life choices regardless of what has been done to them in the past or may still happen in future.

Sergeant Phindile Mazibuko outlined the resources and help available from the Amanzimtoti SAPS Gender-Based Violence Desk.

“The Sparrow Trust team spoke on how boys are vulnerable to exploitation and explained how they can reduce their risk of becoming victims by making good choices and avoiding certain behaviours which may make them more vulnerable to trafficking recruiters,” said Estelle van Eeden, public relations officer of the ACPF and Sparrow Trust founder.
