NPA’s spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, said the event was held in collaboration with the Department of Health, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Durban Municipality Libraries, the Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare, and other NPOs.
“Senior maintenance prosecutor from the SOCA unit, Nokukhanya Gcwabaza, empowered the youth and parents in attendance on their maintenance rights and duties. She specifically emphasised to the youth that they can apply for maintenance from their parents and even their grandparents beyond the age of 18, provided they are still not self-supporting,” said Ramkisson-Kara.
Advocate Vuyisile Mafuna, also from the SOCA unit, led a session empowering attendees on domestic violence laws.
“The information was received warmly by the youth and parents who found the engagement educational and relevant,” she said.
