THE Rotary E-Club of South Africa One has launched a new academic support programme aimed at helping learners build confidence and improve their academic performance.

The pilot project, launched at Isipingo Beach Library on July 29 despite heavy rain, grew out of the club’s successful Study Buddy campaign. It focuses on providing learners with additional academic support through mentorship, encouragement and shared learning.

Retired teacher and Rotarian Vanessa Rana, who developed the initiative, said the programme was created after identifying a gap in the support available to learners.

“The programme recognises that every child learns differently and that, sometimes, all a learner needs is a little extra time, encouragement and someone who believes they can succeed,” said Rana.

Providing an overview of the initiative, Iris Canham said the programme encourages partnerships between learners, parents and mentors to help children remain motivated while improving their academic performance.

“Vanessa has worked hard at identifying the gap and developing a programme and resources to accompany the programme to help children and their parents improve academic success,” said Canham.

Parents attended the launch alongside the selected learners, highlighting the importance of families working together with schools and community organisations to support education. Speaking on behalf of the Isipingo Beach Library, Sivi Govender welcomed the partnership.

“We are so grateful that you have integrated us to be part of the journey of knowledge,” said Govender.

Projects director Logie Naidoo thanked Isipingo Beach Intermediate School principal Mohammed Ismail and his staff, the Isipingo Beach Library team, Mahesh Rana and family, Niren Haridutt of Lightning Sharks, Zelda Moodley and AR Videos for supporting the launch.
