Westville boys work with Clean Surf Project for Illovo clean-up
Illovo Beach was the target of a collaborative clean-up between Clean Surf Project and Westville Boys High School.
OPENING the month of August with action was Clean Surf Project (CSP), which worked alongside the Westville Boys High School environmental task team and a few dedicated residents for a clean-up at Illovo Beach on August 1.

Clean Surf Project’s Romy Wenzel thanked the green-thumbed learners and residents for helping protect the coastline and marine environment. eThekwini Municipality’s beach maintenance unit assisted with prompt collection of 36 bags of litter collected during the clean-up.
“With the Illovo Beach river mouth being closed, a lot of plastic waste has to be fished out of the lagoon. The clean-up was well supported and educational at the same time, exchanging valuable information among learners and participants. It was a harsh reminder that nature needs us to be responsible and caring,” said Wenzel.
During the clean-up, a seabird in distress was found and taken to SPCA Amanzimtoti for further treatment.
