THE Dutch Reformed Church Suidkus hosted Amanzimtoti police on September 6, Police Commemoration Day, for a special service in appreciation of its work and service to the community.

Elzabé Matthews of the church, said that during the sermon, a special prayer was done for the protection, wisdom, strength and well-being of Amanzimtoti police as it faithfully serves the community of Amanzimtoti.

“After the sermon, retired Brigadier Laurence Kemp presented station commander, Colonel Tholumuzi Horace Mzimela with a small token to display in the station.  Each member also received a copy of Psalm 23,” said Matthews.

Afterwards, the members enjoyed tea and refreshments while interacting with the church community.

Communications officer, Captain Charlene Petersen wished to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to the church for the beautiful appreciation service.

“We were deeply moved by your prayers, your hospitality and your recognition of our officers, both serving and fallen. It was an honour to be remembered in your church. Your kindness, prayers and words of encouragement mean a great deal to our members, especially as we remember our fallen colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our communities,” said Petersen.

She explained that in a time when police work is often challenging, support from the community and the church, reminds members that they are not alone.

“Thank you for uplifting our officers and for your continued partnership in building a safer community,” she concluded.
