Advertisers help SUN give back to local organisations
The South Coast Sun donated much-needed items to two local non-profit organisations as part of this year's charitable features.
THE South Coast SUN is giving back to the community, with two local NPOs benefiting from this year’s charitable features.
Amanzimtoti SPCA and Operation Bobbi Bear were selected as the beneficiaries of this year’s initiative, which sees a portion of the revenue generated from special features used to purchase urgently needed items for local organisations.

The A-Z Child Abuse feature was published in May to coincide with Anti-Child Abuse Month. Advertisers were invited to sponsor an alphabet letter, with each letter carrying an important message reminding children of their rights and helping to raise awareness about child abuse.
The SUN’s Adopt-a-Pet feature was then published in August, highlighting animals in need of loving homes while also supporting the work of animal welfare organisations.
According to SUN sales manager, Shereen Maharaj, a percentage of the revenue generated from the two features was used to purchase items from the organisations’ wish lists.
“We want to thank all the advertisers who supported these features because, through their support, they also contributed towards helping the chosen organisations,” said Maharaj.

She said both organisations were asked to provide wish lists detailing their most urgent needs, and the goods were purchased accordingly.
SUN staff members visited the organisations this week to hand over the donated goods.
Eureka Olivier of Operation Bobbi Bear, said food remains one of the organisation’s biggest needs.
“Our biggest need will always be food. Thank you to the SUN for their support and a heartfelt thank you to the advertisers. Without people like them supporting us, Bobbi Bear would not be able to assist so many children who are in desperate need,” she said.
