Newly-appointed Kingsway High principal promises greatness [Video]

It was a whirlwind moment when the acting principal and former learner of Kingsway High School was officially appointed principal.

THE announcement by the Department of Education came and went in the blink of an eye, thrusting Mikhaila Wilson into the coveted position of Kingsway High School’s principal.

Wilson lived in Amanzimtoti for 30 years, and took on the role of acting principal for a year before being officially appointed on April 8. Kingsway High School (KHS), being her alma mater, makes her achievement all the more special.

“There is nothing greater than a teacher seeing her past learners grow and achieve great goals in life. An even greater feeling is when your learners become teachers too, so that they can make a change in others’ lives. My vision is to transform the school into an even stronger, more inclusive and innovative place for both learners and staff,” she said.

She has a Bachelor of Education and an Honours degree in educational law and management. Her plan is to make KHS one of the greatest schools in KZN.

“I have some big shoes to fill. Some of the greatest principals walked these corridors and I am honoured to walk my own path as principal now. I would like to thank my team, staff and SGB for the support over the past year as acting principal, and the KZN Department of Education for their belief in me. Thank you to Louise Lemmer and Sandra du Toit, two principals who I had the privilege of working with. Lastly, to my family, words will never be enough. Thank you for believing in my dreams and making me the person I am today. You truly are incredible and I love you all dearly. Here’s to many great years at Kingsway.”
