NOTICE OF BASIC ASSESSMENT PROPOSED HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE ON ERF 24872, PINETOWN, ETHEKWINI METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY, KWAZULU-NATAL.
Notice is hereby given in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, published in Government Notice No. R982 (as amended) in terms of Sections 24 (5) and 44 of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998, of the proposal by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements to develop the Housing Development and Associated Infrastructure on erf 24872, Pinetown, eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal. Project detail: The KZN Department of Human Settlements proposes to construct a housing development with the aim to provide housing for households that need houses and to alleviate the housing backlog within the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. The site is located on Erf 24872 Pinetown and is owned by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Human Settlement. The project is located south of Pinetown, near Mariannhill toll plaza, KwaZulu-Natal. A Basic Assessment Application will be lodged with the EDTEA to ensure compliance with the legislation and associated regulations. Location: The proposed development is situated on Erf 24872, Pinetown, eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality within the province of KwaZulu-Natal, located at 2951`50.77″S, 3047`32.16″E. In respect of the above, a basic assessment process is being applied to the application for environmental authorisation. The competent authority is the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). Public Participation & Availability of BA Documents for Review and Comment: As part of the public participation process, Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) and stakeholders are invited to register and participate and provide comments as well as the interest they may have in the application, to the contact person indicated below, between 20 April to 06 May 2026.
