Amanzimtoti Netball Club's new combi courts were put to perfect use as the best Durban schools clashed in an U15 tournament.

The club hosted the KZN Coastal Schools U15 Tournament, pitting eight top KZN schools against one another in a strong netball showcase. The exciting tournament culminated in an epic grand final between Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School and Durban Girls College, with the latter coming out on top. Third place went to Danville Girls High School.

Chairperson of the club, Ruan Engelbrecht, a former provincial player turned coach, said those courts three years ago stood empty and dilapidated. Now, after heaps of community support, hard work and grit, the courts are around 90% completed, with the final parts being installation of poles for ringball and tennis.

“Now that the club is fully operational, we want to grow and develop netball and female athletes to their fullest potential and create opportunities so that our players can compete in the highest levels as possible. We do still have some work to do, as we have to run lights to the courts and bathroom. The court lights will allow us to do senior evening practices and also run social night leagues, further bolstering the netball community in Amanzimtoti,” said Ruan.
