EDITOR – It was a sad day when, some years ago, the so-called Metro Police units were formed from the existing traffic units.
The result was that traffic enforcement went out the window. Very soon the various Metro Police units considered themselves as real police without the faintest idea of real police work.
Since that time, motorists, realising the absence of traffic officials, started flouting traffic rules to such an extent that the traffic laws may as well have been scrapped.
Along the 300m road in front of the Sun offices, all rules and regulations are being ignored by motorists on a daily basis.
Motorists park under the no-stop sign, on the pedestrian crossing, on the wrong side of the road, make U-turns, park on the sidewalk, ignore the stop sign and refuse to yield to pedestrians wanting to cross on the legal crossing.
Not once, but on several occasions, have I drawn the attention of a Metro Police member on the scene to this flouting of the law, – just to be ignored. I even took a photo of an official traffic vehicle being parked on the wrong side of the road, under the no-stopping sign and on the pedestrian crossing, I forwarded it to his superiors, without any feedback.
I would dearly love to meet the investigating team, but you did not publish contact details.
