Big field contests golf fundraiser

On Wednesday, the honours went to Martin Tait who shot a tidy 40 individual points.

AMANZIMTOTI Golf Club’s women’s section fundraising golf day was a great success, with 52 players taking part.

Winners on the day were the Pieterse boys, followed by the Roode team with the Stones hot on their heels.

Many thanks to the players for their support, and grateful thanks to Andre and Paul Smit who took on the duties of chefs for the day.

The photocopy raffle was drawn on the same day, and the lucky winner of this magnificent machine was Brian Amm. Thanks to all who supported this fundraising venture.

On Wednesday, the honours went to Martin Tait who shot a tidy 40 individual points, with Claude Osborne in second place on 38 points.

The sundowner on Friday had a superb field of 44 players, and was won by Vishnu Kistnasamy on 25 points, followed by Gerry Motley on 22 points, with Johan Pieterse beating Andy Saywerth by a count out on 21 points.

The women played a fourball alliance on Saturday, with one score to count on all par 3s, two scores on the par 4s and three scores to count on the par 5s. The winning team comprised Lynette Roodt, Wladzia Olivier, Ina de Boer and Colleen Smit on 87 points, followed by the fourball of Estelle Binnekade, Elsune Roode, Sue Boucher and Gill Symons on 86 points. Nearest the pin on the 4th was won by Jacqui Porrill, and there were no two-clubs.

The men played combined medal stableford. Winners were Mike McGregor and Ralph Clarke on 87 points, followed by Nigel Johnson and Mike McGregor on 84, which definitely serves to confuse this scribe. In third place were Mike Halse and Wayne Burgess on 83 points, and the father and son combination of Sakeak and Faraan Khader came fourth on 79 points. Nearest the pin on the 17th was Sakeak Khader and the attendance draw will carry over, courtesy of the winner not being present at prize-giving.

Good luck to those members who are playing in the Sanlam regional finals this Sunday – may your balls fly straight and all your putts drop.
