Cross country athletes kick up dust at season opener

The Saturday morning 25km long run was well supported by members as well as other clubs.

LAST Saturday was the first leg of this year’s cross country season which started at Westridge Tennis Stadium.

The well organised event was hosted by Savages AC and Run Walk For Life (RWFL) Toti’s members did well.

Warren Gibson came 10th in his age group, in a time of 38 minutes for 8km and Philani Mngidi came 12th in his group with 53 minutes for 12km. They kept the RWFL flag flying high.

Well done to the club’s members who completed the Ixopo 21.1km.

The Nawrattel family went on a family visit to Pretoria and did RWFL proud. Dad Matthys and daughter Bianca tackled a 10km race and mom Liesl and daughter Anja completed a 5km run walk. Well done on representing RWFL.

The Cansa relay date has been postponed. The club will inform members once a new date has been set. There is still time to enter should you wish to participate in this prestigious event. For details and to put your name down, call Jan Botha on 082-290-4025.

Members of the public are invited to join RWFL on their training runs, but are urged to wear either a reflective bib or bright coloured clothing. Training days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm at Amanzimtoti High School.

This Saturday, 12 April is the Bergville 52km/21km. The 52km event start is at Bergville Farmers Hall and the 21.1km starts from Ladysmith Sports Club. For more details, contact Johan van Dyk on 076-636-7070.

The annual 8x8km training run will take place on 20 April. Inform Lizette or Jan if you wish to participate.
