Toti BC teams doing well in Oppenheimer

THE Oppenheimer Tournament got off to a good start on Sunday with several of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s (ABC) teams making it through to the second round.
This is an exciting mixed pairs bowls tournament.
Well done to Alec and Nicky Stirzaker; Doreen Salmond and Eric Klopper; Coy Schrauwen and Nola Corrigall; Terry Morgan and Lynn Joubert; and Willem Pelzer and Jenny Delport who have all made it through to the third round. Some of these teams will play at Toti on Sunday, 13 April, so come along and give them your support.
In the women’s 2-4-2, the winners were Marion Crouch and Adrienne Robbins, and the runners-up were Liz Morgan-Davies and Nicky Stirzaker. Marie van der Walt and Hettie van Niekerk won the second session. The 100 board was won by Delysia Mitchley.
The winners of the men’s drawn 2-4-2 were Alec Stirzaker and Ron Greenslade, and the runners-up were Doug Walton and Martin Young. The second session went to Ian Crouch and Dave Kemp. Doug Joubert came first in the men’s scroungers with Colin Coetzee and Sean Roberts coming second and third respectively. Alan McGregor won plate A and Hennie van der Poel won plate B.
There was a winner at the attendance draw on Friday. Well done to social member Stuart Pickles. The winnings will revert to R100 on Friday. Scorgie won the meat, and the wine went to Sean Roberts and Pete Shepard. It was the Roberts family’s lucky night as Sean’s brother Mike won the 100 board.
Several games in women’s competitions have been played. In the open singles, Nola Corrigall beat Lee Jordan, and in two close games, Barbara Beamson defeated Denise Bingham; and Pam Chalder-Royle beat Marion Crouch. In the drawn pairs, Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché got the better of Robyn Hutton and Lee Jordan, and in the nominated pairs, Noreen Butler and Michelle Pitchers defeated Heather Brown and Jackie Holdrick. In the drawn fours, Doreen Salmond, Val de Kok, Gayle Windrim and Tokkie de Kock beat Liz Morgan-Davies, Maureen Crawford, Nicky Stirzaker and Linda McGregor.
They will play the next round against Marion Crouch and team on Saturday. Keep checking the board for carded games.
The men’s league teams had mixed fortunes on Saturday. The first division lost 1-6 to Umhlali; second division lost 2-5 to Hillcrest B; third division won 7-0 against Lahee Park B; fifth division won 5-0 against Hillary C; sixth division (E team) drew with two and a half points all against Wentworth B; sixth division (F team) lost 0-5 to Chatsworth A; and eighth division lost 2-3 to Queensburgh B.
The list for the Easter Tournament is now closed and the draw is up on the board. The draw is also up for women’s senior singles.
The club was saddened to hear of the death of George Oosthuizen after a long illness. Condolences are sent to his wife, family and friends.
Birthday greetings are sent this week to Elsie Walker and Stella Erasmus, and good health is wished to all members.
