Women’s league off to a winning start at ABC

Birthday wishes go this week to Errol du Plessis.

THE women of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) started off their league campaign in winning style.

Well done to all, especially to the C side who scored a full house of 10 points under the leadership of skips Heather Brown and Jenny Delport. The A side won 7-3; the B side won 8-2; and the D side won 7-3. Good bowling in the next and final rounds next weekend.

The men’s league sides had mixed fortunes. A side won 5-2; B side lost 2-5; C side won 4-3; D side won 5-0; E side won 4-1; F side lost 0-5. The last men’s league games are to be played on Saturday, 7 June, and the women finish their campaign on the morning of Sunday, 8 June. Afterwards, on Sunday afternoon, there will be a bring and braai to celebrate all the club’s team efforts in this tough campaign. Everyone is welcome, so go along and support the club.

At TGIF, Ruth de Canha’s tab number was drawn in the members’ draw, but she was unfortunately not present. Next week’s draw is worth R150. Dallas Davis won the 100 board.

Club competitions are well underway. In the women’s senior singles, Barbara Beamson beat Pam Chalder-Royle. Barbara also triumphed in the handicap singles against Michelle Pitchers, and in another handicap singles game, Maxien Barnes had a good win over Jenny Delport. The women’s novice singles is shaping up well, with Talla Stephens-Viviers looking good with wins against Margaret van Belkum and Lesley Stephens-Viviers.

In the men’s senior singles, Ian Crouch beat Colin Coetzee, and Alec Stirzaker defeated Robbie Roberts. In the men’s drawn pairs, Greg McLeod and Dennie Denysschen beat Andrew Walker and Carl van Heerden. Going through to the final are Neil Oberholzer and Pete Shepard who overcame Neville Roscoe and Vish Studinski in their semis game.

The men’s Scroungers will take place on Friday, 6 June. Everyone is to watch the notice board, especially for carded games for the next two weekends. The women are to note there are still spaces for teams to join in the winter tournament on 12 and 13 June. This is a fun, sponsored tournament with lots of prizes. The format is fours to play three games of 15 ends on the Thursday, and two games of 15 ends on the Friday. Tea, sandwiches and lunches are included in the entrance fees.

Birthday wishes this week go to Errol du Plessis. ABC wishes all members good health and good bowling in the week ahead.
