ABC’s Neil wins scroungers
Owen Turner, and Shawn Sutherland; and to any members who are unwell we wish them health and strength.

IT was a quiet week at Amanzimtoti Bowls Club due to the weather, and Tuesday’s cloudburst saw the social bowlers scatter for home after only three ends as heavy rain and hail approached.
Thursday’s men’s 2-4-2 also had to be abandoned, but the sun was out again for men’s scroungers on Friday. The overall winner of that competition was Neil Oberholzer, with a very pleased ‘Big Al’ McGregor in second place and Andrew Walker in third. Shayne Tocher won plate A, and Dave Kemp won plate B.
In this week’s key draw Eric Gardner’s key number was drawn, but unfortunately for Eric, the key didn’t fit. The prize now rises to plus/minus R7,000 for next week, so buy tickets early from the bar to make sure you stand a chance to win. Lesley Stephens-Viviers won the 100 board, and tab 79 came out in the attendance draw, however, Reg Turner was not present, so that prize rises to R400 for next week.
Lists now go up for the 2014/5 honours board competitions, and members are reminded that anyone interested in taking the Port Natal marker’s or umpire’s courses at the end of the month should submit their names as soon as possible. The women are also reminded that the ever popular Cherry Bell competition is on 25 October, so start planning your outfits now. Birthday wishes this week go to Tony Cam, William Sithole, Owen Turner, and Shawn Sutherland; and to any members who are unwell.
Finally, congratulations to the two ABC teams who won their sections of the Port Natal fours last weekend. They are Delysia Mitchley, Liz Morgan-Davies, Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers; and Heather Brown, Elsie Walker, Pam Chalder-Royle and Jackie Holdrick. They are now through to the knock-out phase on Sunday, 12 October. Good bowling to all.
