Winkle SLC masters shine at KZN champs
The team had some great results despite very little training.

A GROUP of Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club masters (also known as ballies) put together a team to compete at Sunday’s KZN master lifesaving champs, which was held at Suncoast Pirates SLC.
The team was comprised as follows: N Hazel, R Taylor, S Ward, M Gehard, B Fell, B Stange, C Stange, G Alberts and K Isaacs.
The team had some great results despite very little training. The surf conditions were not ideal with a big shore break and backline, and swim cans miles out to sea. The team brought home some silverware, achieving medals in flags, beach sprint, beach relay, double ski, surf swim, taplin and long run.
Gary Alberts was Winkle’s top competitor, bagging five medals and Sabrina Ward was Winkle SLC’s top woman competitor, bagging four golds in swim, sprint, flags and long run. With bad Brad with and excellent two swim legs the masters will now be training for the SA master champs in April.
