Mountain bikers eat dirt on weekend outing
A nice cup of coffee and some yummy food was consumed at the Scottburgh caravan parks tea room afterwards.
SATURDAY morning dawned nice and sunny with a slight nip in the air as the Toti Cycling Club Mambas mountain bikers set off from the Scottburgh beach car park to hit the Renishaw trails.
There were riders from all levels, from the fast, serious riders right down to some brand new mountain bikers.
The trails are running beautifully right now, even though the dust is starting to become a problem. A bit of rain to wet down the tracks would be most welcome.
True to mountain biking, a couple of close-up inspections were made of the dust. Shaun Heinz, while proudly riding his brand new Scott 29er, went careening down a particularly bumpy hill and did a Superman dive onto the dirt road below, which wasn’t that unique, as a few Mambas have tried that trick in the same place before, but he rates tops as he split his helmet in half. Thank goodness the bike was alright. John von Landsburg decided to do a flip over the handle bars while navigating his way down mineshaft. Again, not that unique as it’s been done before. There were also a few other slips and slides but no major injuries, thank goodness.

There is now an official meeting time and place for all mountain bikers wishing to do a coffee ride on a Friday. They will leave Thirsty Whale at 4.45am on a Friday morning to return to the same spot by 5.45am for coffee. This will be an easy paced recovery ride.
The roadies meet at Engen Garage in Rockview Road at 5am.
Next Sunday Toti Cycle Club will meet at Ushaka Beach for a social family ride along the promenade to the bird park and back to Bike and Bean for breakfast. The club hopes to see all club members and family and friends there. Details will be posted on social media.
A reminder that help is needed with the Toti 69er on 12 July. Call Barry Walker on 083-459-8253.
