Robyn is open singles champ at ABC

TOTI Bowling Club saw some riveting finals played on Saturday.

Congratulations to Robyn Hutton who is the new women’s open singles champion.

Her game against Jane Coetzee was nail-biting from start to finish and had the spectators on the balcony glued to their seats. The score was peeled on six separate ends and after 26 ends, Robyn took the game by one shot. Well done to you both.

The final of the women’s drawn trips was also a close match with Heather Brown, Amanda Ninow and Karen Shepherd triumphing over Jeanne Alexander, Adrienne Robbins and Linda McGregor by one shot. Heather was still on a winning streak the next day, winning her nominated pairs semi-final with Jackie Holdrick against Jane Coetzee and Denise Bingham. Good bowling to them in the final. Doreen Salmond had a strong win in the women’s senior singles against Margaret van Belkum.

Men’s novice singles results are: Leon van Rensburg 21 vs Peter Snyman 13; Shawn Sutherland 21 vs Martin Birch 7; Martin Birch 21 vs Wessie van der Westhuizen 15; and Shawn Sutherland 21 vs Leon van Rensburg 19. In the men’s nominated pairs, Peter Barnes and Mike Roberts beat Barry Buckland and Jeff van Belkum.

In the men’s monthly nominated trips, the winners were Peter Labuschagne, Dave Kemp and Barry Bush; the runners-up were Glen Scorgie, Peter Callaghan and Micky Roche; and in third place were Ian Shearer, Bill Riley and Bobby Henderson.

At TGIF the 100 board was won by Pete Shepard, and Dudley Blount’s name came up in the attendance draw but as he was not present, next week’s prize is worth R600. Micky Roche’s key was drawn, but sadly for him it would not turn in the lock. Next week’s key is worth R2,710.

Well done to the Toti men who were the winners in the annual inter-club tournament in Port Edward. Good bowling to all members who are playing in the Dan Draper competition this week. The club wishes all the best to Doreen Salmond who is playing senior masters, and Tokkie de Kock who is playing masters this weekend. Everyone is rooting for them both.
