Tenpin bowlers gain awesome experience in Japan

Juniors are on holiday at present, league re-commences on Friday 24 July.

IT has been a full week in tenpin bowling circles.

The KZNTBA AGM was held on Saturday, 11 July; three of our bowlers were in Japan representing our country and leagues and tournaments were held at Dolphin Bowl.

The KZN committee was largely re-elected as the bowlers were happy with level of representation from the existing committee members.

Our bowlers returning from Japan stated that it was an awesome experience watching and participating against professionals who they had only previously seen on TV, in bowling centres with 46 or 92 lanes.

Bronwen Elbourne and Fran Louw were selected as the top African team to compete against the hosts Japan, in the mixed doubles event. All the bowlers were impressed with the planning and organisation of the tournament. Any teams arriving late at the respective bowling centres found that their entry had been cancelled.

With South Africa being represented, great contacts were made and Kim Tyrell and Kelly Kallick have been contracted to come to South Africa, to run coaching clinics early in 2016, for the benefit of all our bowlers.

League News, Monday Taxi Trios still see the 2 Hookers and a Str8 Guy pulling away from the rest of the field with brilliant displays of bowling week after week. Languishing in their shadows is the all-master bowler team of Pulse followed by another team of youngsters High 5s in third.

There is only one week of this season to go and 2 Hookers are in an unassailable lead but the minor placing is still up for grabs. High scores for the league go to Andrew Cyster 257, Logan Naidoo and Brian Daventry-Bull 244, Tamika Matthew 213, Sue Bhagwandin on 204 and Suki Studzinski on 202.

Wednesday morning league sees Katie Alberts holding the others at bay on +38 from Vish Studzinski on + 21, the rest of the Soho bowlers are all on a minus.

Millenium league in first place currently are the Sewcharans followed by Newbies and Soorjlals. Coenie Nienaber who made a welcome return to bowling led the field with 259 followed by Pierre du Plooy 247, Theo Govender 246 while for the women Debbie Fowler bowled a 214.

Thursday Dolphin doubles league sees the hugely successful 3s a crowd team pulling away from the opposition by virtue of some fine bowling performances from Roy Prince and Vish Studzinski, with Avengers and Double Trouble languishing behind.

High scores belong to Ricky O’Hare 241, Len Elbourne 236, and Pierre du Plooy on 224. For the women, Stacey-Lee Hooper leads on 224 from Bronwen Elbourne on 201.

Juniors are on holiday at present, league re-commences on Friday, 24 July.

Phantom league currently has Terry du Plooy, 486 first, from Uys van Aardt, 461.

Staff league is currently led by John Short from Rachel Hanekom and Sammy Nel. On the tournament side the monthly swipe card tournament was won by Tamika Matthew. The ATBC Trios was held this last weekend and twelve teams competed for the honours of being crowned trios champions for 2015. Lane conditions were extremely difficult and all bowlers battled to notch up any high scores. Only two women, Louisa Nienaber and Cheryl Hambrook managed to break the 200 barrier with games of 202 and 200 respectively. On the men’s side only six scores were recorded breaking the 225 barrier. Two of these were bowled by Theo Govender, 227 and 234 while Andrew Cyster managed a 256, Dylan van Berkel a tournament best of 258, Logan Naidoo, 230 and just creeping under the wire Ron McClatchie with a 225.

The 2014 champions, Donavan, Dylan and Gansen held on to their title by six pins from Andrew, Logan and Monty in second with the master team of Louisa, Coenie and Ron in third place. Dolphin Bowl is now preparing for the 2015 Masters inter-provincials which will be bowled from 16 to 21 August. This will see the best over 45-year-old bowlers in the country competing for the honours of provincial champions for the year.
