Matthys soldiers through Capital Classic 100

Wet and cold conditions greeted athletes at this prestigious event.

LAST weekend saw one of Run Walk for Life (RWFL) Amanzimtoti’s longest serving members, Matthys Nawrattel head up to the Capital Classic 100 organised by the Natal Carbineers Athletics Club in Pietermaritzburg.

Wet and cold conditions greeted athletes at this prestigious event.

Matthys, who is a walker, entered for the 20 mile distance which has a cut-off time of six hours. Matthys managed to complete the distance in terrible weather conditions in just under five hours. Many of the starters unfortunately did not finish due to the poor conditions which made walking and running really tough. All credit to Matthys for persevering and pushing his own limits to complete this event well within the allotted time.
