NOW that the KZNGU inter club is over, all the clubs involved can now get back to their normal competitions.

Once again, congratulations to all three of the Umkomaas Golf Club (UGC) teams who played and acquitted themselves so wonderfully well.

The results show that this was the best Umkomaas has done at inter club for quite some time.

All the golfing professionals around the world are playing in Shanghai, China this past weekend and they will probably stay there to play in the BMW Masters which starts on Thursday, 12 November. There will be the normal smattering of South Africans in China but Tim Clark is set to play in the OHL Classic in Mayakoba, Mexico on Thursday. Locals can only hope that he makes the ‘cut’ – going through to the end of the tournament. Naturally, UGC wishes him the best of luck.

The Strand Strikers made a meal of the Wednesday individual stableford with two of them taking home the first and second prizes. In first place was Richard Andersson, who counted out ‘big’ Garth Wilyman into second spot, both on 41 points. Talk about David and Goliath. In third place was Peter Williamson in third slot who counted out Johan Hugo into fourth slot, both with 39 points.

Saturday was the Toyota monthly medal and the club welcomed visitors Mike Harvard, Nigel Jones and Annabelle and Selwyn Hesom. The A division winner was none other than Deneys Williamson on 70 followed by runner-up Viv Naicker on 71. The B division was won on an excellent score by Barrie Taylor on 64 with Simon van den Bosch the runner-up on 69, counting out Eric Morsner, also on 69. The C division, which always has the most players, was won by Dave Robertson on 71 with runner-up Keith Vergottini counting out Ken Koster, both on 72.

The women also played their medal round and it was Sabiha Bacaus taking the winner’s ‘Sutcliffe Glass’, counting out Annette Gillett into second spot, both with 75. Lesa Vergottini took home the least putts prize with only 29 putts for the game. Sabiha also took home the jackpot prize with her 10 points and the hidden birdie also ‘flew’ her way on the long par five 10th hole. Only two two-clubs on Saturday – Deneys Williamson on the fourth and Jimmy Spear on the 9th. Petros Langa had already left the club so the attendance draw will be carried over to next week. The football sweep was won by Bing Opie with Portsmouth FC.

Next Saturday, 14 November is the final game in the Alliance League for 2015. The five best scores will be tallied up and the winner will be decided at the end of play that day. Good luck to you all – this could be the game which secures you the top spot at the end, so play well.

A reminder of the quiz night on Friday, 13 November which will definitely be lucky for some. These evenings have proved to be great fun for everyone with chicken or ‘boerie’ rolls on sale for the hungry. Your contact for the evening is either the club on 039-973-1042 or John Thompson on 082-322-4920. You can also call the club to book for the bingo evening on Friday, 27 November – don’t miss this really fun evening for the whole family.

Six-pin is set to start braai-ing again on Friday evenings so take the family along, play six holes and enjoy the company of friends around the braai. It’s a great way to start the weekend.

The Geriatrics are starting their golf quite early on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Be at the club at 6.15am. For more information, call Keith on 083-305-5740 or Graham on 080-833-25 5705 – these guys would love to hear from you and to join them for a game of golf. Find UGC online at www.umkomaasgolf.co.za
